An unusual-looking antelope, the Wildebeest has a broad, flat muzzle, cow-like horns, a short neck and high shoulders. Its color can vary from blue-gray to brown, its upper body being lighter and lower body darker. It has black vertical stripes of longer hair on the forequarters. The facial blaze, tail hair and mane are usually black; the beard may be black or white. The horns are smooth with a knobby base.
